It is a joyful time at Bantaba Junction in Talinding, The Gambia, on the West African Coast. Returning from the Peace Corps in 2014, we made a promise to a desperate father (a man who had taken us in as family) that we would not stop trying to find somebody willing to take on the challenge of attempting to heal Ish. Ismaila Jarju has grown up watching boys and girls play soccer in the street in front of his mother’s shop, smiling and joyful in the face of obstacles greater than most can imagine, yet saddened by the reality that he may never join them in kicking the ball.
